Little Bird Tarot Did It First
I'm genuinely happy & relieved I published Little Bird Tarot after a successful Kickstarter campaign when I did (summer of 2024). I intentionally selected each image to correspond with the meaning of each particular card based on the Rider-Waite-Smith system. I wanted the images to make sense. The Perfect Bound, 168 full-color guidebook included, is as I'd envisioned: designed as a Field Guide. I use quotes throughout the book reflecting the moments Audubon shared with the birds, and I included journal prompts (which will be updated for the second edition) for many of the cards.
There are new decks entering the market, like The Spiritual Meaning of Birds Oracle Deck by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. Also coming later this year is An Almanac of Birds: 100 Divinations for Uncertain Days by Maria Popova, featuring art from Audubon's "Birds of America" and the Goulds' "Birds of Europe.”
It's actually pretty cool to see these bird-themed oracle decks making their way into mainstream channels, reaching audiences that Little Bird Tarot might not. As an indie creator, balancing all the factors that go into pricing and selling a deck makes it challenging to create something universally accessible.
Last year, I reached out to a mass market publisher about Little Bird. Their website mentioned they'd respond "as soon as possible" after submission. After several months of silence, I called and spoke with someone who seemed surprised I hadn't heard back. They took my info and promised to call regardless of their decision. That was in December 2024, and despite a few follow-up attempts, I haven't heard anything.
For now, I'm embracing my independent status and focusing on releasing the second edition of Little Bird as soon as I can – hopefully before this new oracle deck drops!
